Foods that stain and damage teeth the most

One of the first physical traits we notice when we meet someone is their smile and teeth. Factors such as whether your teeth look healthy, are well aligned, have no imperfections or even missing pieces take on a first-class character.

One of the most important aspects to give a good image with them is that they look clean, without stains and with a white tone. But, this is not easy. Achieving this requires correct hygiene in addition to great constant care.

One of the main points that are usually addressed is knowing what type of foods can stain and damage teeth. Here is a list of those foods and drinks that have the most power to deteriorate our teeth and their enamel.

Café

One of the first pieces of advice we always receive to take care of our teeth is that we should minimize the intake of this drink. The reason for this is the amount of chromogens it contains.

Wine

Both red wine and white wine have great power when it comes to deteriorating our teeth. This is due to three elements that they contain: in addition to chromogens, like wine, tannins and its acidity.

Tea

Tannins are also to blame for why tea is not a particularly suitable drink if we want to have teeth with good aesthetics.

Sugary drinks in general

And this includes energy drinks, sodas or soft drinks. In addition to being able to cause cavities due to its high sugar content, it can also be responsible for attacking the appearance through its high acid content.

Soy sauce and Modena vinegar

In the case of these two foods, the problem comes from the high bleaching content they include. Which are capable of passing through the enamel and generating stains.

Ketchup

Another of the foods that has the most power when it comes to damaging our smile due to its color is ketchup.

Deeply colored fruits and vegetables

And by that we mean blueberries, blackberries, cherries and vegetables like beets. In addition to its natural acidity, there is a problem with its powerful pigment.

Candies

Of course, candies also have to have their own place on this list. In their case, the main problem lies in the powerful colorants they usually present and their acidity. In addition, their high sugar content makes them very harmful to our cavities.

As you have seen, there is a long list of foods that are harmful to the appearance of our teeth and that we consume almost daily. It is advisable to avoid them as much as possible, but it is almost impossible to completely eliminate them from our diet. For this reason, it is advisable to follow the main recommendations when it comes to oral cleaning: brush our teeth at least once after each meal and go to our dentist to carry out professional oral cleanings and, if necessary, bring carry out a whitening treatment.
