Open and closed sinus lift
With the passage of time and age, our teeth become weaker and some teeth may fall out. After tooth loss, we should urgently go to our dental clinic to undergo some treatment and recover our smile.
But for different reasons there are patients who do not go to the dentist that quickly. This causes the maxillary bone is shrinking, thus eliminating the only bone base that could hold dental implants.
For cases in which the patient lacks a bone base for the implant, we perform sinus lifts.
As we have already mentioned before, the lack of bone prevents the implant from being fixed correctly. Many patients come to us concerned about this issue.
In our clinic we have several treatments for these more complicated cases, sinus lift and zygomatic implants, which we will talk about in another article.
Maxillary sinus elevation is a surgical technique in which The aim is to increase the bone in the upper arch, thus we will obtain the necessary bone base for the dental implant. There are two types of sinus lifts:
Closed or atraumatic sinus lift
This is done when there is a minimum of 5 mm of bone left in height. It is done through the space that remains empty. In this treatment we do not pierce the membrane that covers the maxillary sinus, but we elevate it.
We fill the empty space under the elevation to be able to hold the dental implant.
Open sinus lift
We will carry out this treatment if the bone base does not reach 5 mm, which would not allow the placement of a dental implant.
Surgery It is carried out through the lateral wall of the sinus, creating an opening to introduce the necessary bone. With this bone graft we guarantee the stability of the implant.
Before carrying out the treatment, our dentist will carry out a study to check how much jaw bone you have and whether or not it exceeds 5 mm. This way you will know if you need to have a sinus lift and if it would be open or closed.
Even so, in both types of sinus lifts, our surgeons, having extensive experience in cases of patients with little bone in the jaws, always try to place the implants that same day, so the patient would only have a single surgery, not two or three like in most dental clinics.
Don't delay in going to one of our dental clinics so that we can carry out a study on you and you can smile safely again as soon as possible. We are looking forward to seeing you in this Special Mini-webinar!
