Dental implants or bridges, what is best for me?

When losing one or more teeth, we find it necessary replace original teeth with a dental implant or bridge. In this case, natural teeth would not be replaced just for aesthetics, but our oral health would come into play.

It is very important to replace the lost tooth(s) for various reasons, such as the other teeth overloading it, since we have to make a greater effort when chewing.

The big doubt that most patients usually have when replacing the tooth is whether opt for an implant or a dental bridge. In general terms, we can say that in the 21st century, in most cases, dental implants are advisable. But let's look at each option in detail:

dental bridges

Dental bridges consist of a set of crowns that simulate the shape of teeth. These are fixed, that is, once fixed they can only be debonded by a dentist.

One of the biggest drawbacks of dental bridges is that the teeth need to be ground to place them. By cutting the teeth we reduce their size, which means that we always need to wear the crown on them.

Many patients usually choose this option, since It is cheaper and does not require any implants.. But in the long run, it ends up being more expensive, since the teeth on which the bridge is supported become overloaded and will surely have to be replaced with implants.

Dental implants

Dental implants are titanium fixations that are placed in the jaw bone to replace lost teeth.. Thanks to technical advances, pain is eliminated and treatment is performed immediately.

Types of dental implants

La Advanced Implantology It facilitates the placement of implants and fixed teeth in the same session. The ideal would be to always opt for immediate loading and leave with your fixed prosthesis on the same day that the implants are placed, whenever possible.

There are more complicated cases, in which the patient has little bone in the jaws, they may choose to have a zygomatic implant. This type of dental implant is placed directly on the cheek bone, shortening treatment time. Patients do not feel pain during the intervention since they undergo local anesthesia and monitored sedation, and they recover in 24-48 hours.

Another type of dental implants are “minimally invasive”, also called “without surgery”. In this intervention, no cuts are made, since the implant is placed through the gum.

Dental implants are usually more expensive than dental bridges, but they are more comfortable, natural, and do not overload adjacent teeth.

After 20 years of experience in Advanced Implantology, we recommend that you have an immediate loading implant, whenever possible, so you will have a normal rhythm from day 1. Contact us and we will carry out a study to find out which treatment best suits your needs.
