Types of dental implants
The main solution to replace the total loss of a tooth is through the dental implant, which is nothing more than the replacement of the lost piece or pieces with others made of a certain material.
Currently, there are a large number of clinics offering a similar number of treatments and types of implants, which makes it very difficult to understand which solution best suits our needs. In this post we are going to explain in detail what exactly a dental implant is and what are the main types of dental implants that exist.
what is a dental implant?
A dental implant is a piece artificially designed to replace a missing tooth. It is a titanium screw that is inserted into the jaw bone through a process called implantology and on which the new tooth will be placed.
Processes in implantology:
- Detection and study. The first step is to perform an analysis through x-ray or CT to know the state of the bone in the jaws.
- Secondly, we proceed to extract the part(s) to replace (if applicable).
- Bone grafting is performed if necessary.
- Placement of the dental implant.
- Placement of the dental crown (tooth).
Types of dental implants
We can classify the main types of dental implants according to the intervention necessary for placement.
Zygomatic implants
At Dental Corbella we are specialists in Zygomatic implants in Madrid. This system is ideal for those people with bone atrophy in the upper jaw.
Implants “without surgery”
They do not require opening the gum for placement. Valid for patients with an ideal amount of bone and no infections.
All on four and all on six implants
As its name indicates, these are fixed prostheses that are placed on 4 or 6 implants throughout the jaw.
Angled implants
These are normal dental implants but located at an angle, with the aim of being able to access areas richer in bone, such as the pterygoid area. That is why they are also called pterygoids.
